KUCHING, Sept 24: The Sarawakian team has been crowned the indoor volleyball champs at the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma) after a 12-year wait.
According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, the jubilant moment was recorded at the Shah Alam MBSA Hall following the success of Sarawak’s men’s team defeating Selangor 3-2 after a dramatic five-set match.
Sarawak started well by winning the first set with 27-25 points, but Selangor took the second set with a 24-26 points win.
Selangor continue its winning momentum by taking the third set with 25-23 points, but was countered by Sarawak in the fourth when the latter won with 25-23 points.
During the final set, Sarawak’s team orchestrated skillful plays against their opponent and won the game with 16-14 points.
Following that, the team’s captain, Ranjit Ramu was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of Sukma 2022.
Meanwhile, Sarawak women’s volleyball squad finished the competition with a bronze medal after defeating Kuala Lumpur in the third and fourth place decider on Thursday (Sept 22). — DayakDaily
