KOTA SAMARAHAN, Dec 20: Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute aims to host the long-postponed AsiaFlux Conference from Sept 20 to 22, 2022.
It is a platform for scientists interested in studying the exchanges of environmental variables such as carbon dioxide, water, energy, and microorganisms occurring between the ecosystem and the atmosphere.
Institute director Dr Lulie Melling said the conference was supposed to be organised last year, but it had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“It is not common for the island of Borneo and for the State of Sarawak to have the opportunity to showcase the science generated and host such a high-profile scientific event.
“I would appreciate your full support and commitment for the success of this conference next year,” she addressed the Institute staff when speaking at the Tropi Appreciation and Christmas Night event held at the Institute in Kota Samarahan here tonight.
Around 100 guests attended the event, which Dr Lulie described as a good opportunity for the staff to socialise and have some fun.
“Being researchers, they (staff) are like silo people due to the nature of their work. So this event could be a way for them to learn about administration, management and interaction with their colleagues,” she added.
The event also witnessed Dr Lulie presenting the Excellent Service Awards to four recipients, namely Nur Azima Busman — who is currently furthering her studies in Japan, Yap Mui Lan, Anathasia Thomas, and Normah Puteh. — DayakDaily
