Sarawak subject to racism, religious intolerance if GPS joins PN, says PKR Selangau chief

KUCHING, Nov 21: Sarawak will be further subject to racism and religious intolerance propagated by Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) should Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) join force with Perikatan Nasional (PN) to form the federal government.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Selangau branch chief Joshua Jabang said this in statement following the meeting between GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to form a coalition government of Malaysian for the next 5 years.

“Despite this just being another attempt to block the process of reform towards good governance, I express grave concern that Sarawakians will be further subject to racism and religious intolerance propagated by PAS.

“Sarawak is a secular State where religion and politics should not mix. PAS’ 49-seats strong in PN would put Muhyiddin in second place behind (PAS chairman Abdul) Hadi Awang as possible prime minister.

“Sarawakians have long rejected Hadi Awang as the most intolerant Islamist,” said Joshua in a press statement today.

He opined that PAS is a threat to Sarawak’s multi-cultural tradition and heritage.

“I am speaking to defend our constitutional rights as a multi-cultural, multi-religious secular society. Political Islam is not welcomed in the harmonious co-existence of Sarawak people.

“Sarawak’s multi-cultural population will be better of working with PH’s 82 seats with Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.”

He thus appealed to all MPs within GPS to use their better sense and take courage to reject any intention to work with PN.

“Indeed ‘Sarawak First, United We Can’ should be heard loud and clear,” said Joshua.  — DayakDaily
