Sarawak Scouts launch “Save Matang Camp” to rebuild campsite

KUCHING, March 30: Sarawak Scouts has launched a “Save Matang Camp” campaign recently requesting Sarawakians to contribute to rebuild the Scout Permanent Matang Campsite.

The camp site is not only a campsite for the Scouts in Sarawak but it bears the significance of being the site chosen by a film production company in the 1980s, as one of the production site for the movie “Farewell to the King”.

In 2000, the first BIMP-EAGA (Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area) Jamboree which attracted more than 6,000 participants from 12 countries was also held at this campsite.

According to Scouts Association of Malaysia, Sarawak Branch, after years of being abandoned, the Sarawak scouts has launched the “Save Matang Camp” campaign with the attempt to rebuild the scenery of the camp.
