KUCHING, Sept 27: Sarawak Patriot Association (SPA) shares the same sentiment with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim regarding recent corruption allegations.
Recently, there were allegations of corrupt practices involving Works Minister Baru Bian’s political secretary, who was said to have promised contracts and allocations from various ministries during a meeting with local leaders on Sept 1 in return for support in the upcoming PKR elections.
SPA secretary Hii Chin Loung noted that Anwar described the allegations, which was reported on Sept 24, as “very disturbing”.
“Corruption is a major problem and has adverse effects on society, especially since it undermines the trust of the people. In the true spirit of democracy, which the SPA is also advocating for, any election process must be clean and fair. Otherwise, people will lose faith in the democratic process,” Hii said in a statement today.
SPA supported Baru’s call on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the allegation.
“SPA urges political leaders whose ministries are implicated in the corruption allegations to conduct thorough investigations and clear their names as there is no room for any form of corruption in the new Malaysia,” Hii emphasised. — DayakDaily
