Mahathir makes U-turn by appointing himself acting Education Minister, says SPA

Sarawak Patriots Association

KUCHING, Jan 10: Sarawak Patriots Association (SPA) believes that Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad’s decision to appoint himself as the acting Education Minister was yet another U-turn which contradicted the manifesto prior to the last general election.

“SPA is very surprised that the PM has made a U-turn again, as Pakatan Harapan GE14 election manifesto Promise No. 12 paragraph (4) states that ‘the Prime Minister will not simultaneously hold other ministerial posts…'”

The association queried whether there were no other qualified candidates in the PH cabinet who could be appointed as Education Minister.

“Does that mean that during the previous 22 years rule as PM, he has not groomed any young leaders who can be Education Minister?”

SPA questioned whether he intended to hold both posts indefinitely as there was no time assigned to ‘acting’ post.

“Does he plan to pass the leadership (of Prime Minister) to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, anytime soon, as agreed by the PH leaders prior to the GE14?” the association asked.

SPA pointed out that after the Education Minister had resigned, the prime minister could have appointed Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching as acting Education Minister instead, believed her able and competent.

The association opined that the decision to appoint the Deputy Education Minister to become the Acting Education Minister was more appropriate but that Mahathir decided otherwise. —DayakDaily
