KUCHING, Oct 1: Sarawak is looking to establish an Abu Dhabi office in a little over a year to help drive proposed solar and gas ventures, with feasibility studies underway and engineers from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) making frequent visits to the State.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the proposed office would be jointly managed by Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy) and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) to facilitate and oversee projects once they move into the implementation stage.

Speaking to reporters after the Sarawak Corporate Leadership Summit 2026 (SCOPE) here today, he said Sarawak was already working with Abu Dhabi on solar energy while discussions were also ongoing on opportunities in the gas industry.

“We have proposed that an office be established in Abu Dhabi, jointly managed by Sarawak Energy and PETROS, to oversee the projects once they are implemented,” he said.

Abang Johari said the proposal was aimed at strengthening cooperation with Abu Dhabi while facilitating the management of potential projects in Sarawak.

He said the projects were still at the feasibility study stage, but engineers from the Abu Dhabi side had been making frequent visits to Sarawak.

Asked when the proposed office could be established, he said: “Perhaps in a little over a year.”

On November 6 2024, Abang Johari said during a press conference following his visit to Masdar City in Abu Dhabi that the office would operate similarly to Sarawak’s trade and tourism offices in Singapore (STATOS), Brunei (STATOB), and Kalimantan, focusing on economic and technological collaboration with the region. — DayakDaily
