MIRI, Aug 15: Marine Police Sarawak Region 5 seized 1,950 cartons of untaxed cigarettes and a van worth RM439,000 in an operation dubbed ‘Ops Kontraban’ at Jalab Usahawan, behind a fuel station along Miri By-Pass yesterday morning (Aug 14).
According to Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 intelligence unit (URM) found the contraband inside the van during the operation at about 10am.
The police also detained the van driver to facilitate the investigation.
The enforcement team, Alexson said, subsequently carried out a check inside the van and found cigerattes sticks of various types and brands including Parkway menthol (2,000); Filter Parkway (8,000); Rave (10,000) and Premium International (19,000) inside boxes which were believed to be untaxed.
The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967. — DayakDaily
