KUCHING, March 17: Sarawak will once again collaborate with the Institute for Youth Research Malaysia (IYRES) to conduct a comprehensive survey on the quality of life and social well-being of youths in the state.

Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this marks the second time Sarawak is engaging with IYRES, following a similar survey conducted in 2018.

The survey, which will cover all 45 districts in Sarawak, aims to assess youth perceptions and aspirations across six key domains: education, economy, mental and physical well-being, political socialisation, nationalism and democracy, values and identity, as well as media and digital citizenship.

“When we get this data, it will be documented and passed over to the ministry.

“From the survey, the ministry will know the aspirations of the youth in each region. For example, in Long Semado, the programmes can be tailored based on the feedback received,” he told reporters after chairing the Sarawak Youth Development Committee meeting held at Waterfront Hotel here today.

He added that the data collected will be compiled into a book, which will also be presented to the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

In addition to the survey, the meeting also featured presentations from the ministry, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) on youth-related crime, the Department of Education on student dropout rates, and Azam Sarawak on upcoming programmes. – DayakDaily
