KUCHING, June 7: Over 3,000 worshippers gathered at Jamek Mosque in Petra Jaya this morning to perform the Aidiladha Sunnah Prayer, joined by Sarawak leaders in a thanksgiving ceremony where 100 recipients—including Muslim converts and the underprivileged in Kuching—benefited from the sacrificial meat distribution, symbolising gratitude, compassion, and unity during the holy celebration.
The event, organised by the Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC), was graced by the presence of Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Also in attendance were Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, the ceremony commenced with the Aidiladha Sunnah Prayer led by Sarawak Grand Imam Dato’ Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi, followed by a sermon titled “Strengthening Faith, Enhancing Sacrifice.”

This was followed by the symbolic slaughter of sacrificial animals, witnessed by the honoured guests and accompanied by the heartfelt echoes of the takbir, which brought a sense of spiritual solemnity and festivity to the event.
Wan Junaidi, Abang Zohari, and Fadillah also took part in preparing the sacrificial meat, adding symbolic value to the act of thanksgiving and community sharing.
The ceremony continued with the distribution of sacrificial meat to 30 recipients, including Muslim converts and the needy in Kuching, led by Wan Junaidi. In total, 100 individuals were reached through the programme.
Also present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordination for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, and SIC president Datuk Misnu Taha, alongside heads of government departments and other dignitaries. — DayakDaily
