KUCHING, May 31: Sarawak Energy Bhd and Japan Bank of International Corporation (JBIC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in green energy generation.
The agreement aims to advance energy transition, regional interconnectivity, and sustainable economic development between Sarawak and Japan.
The MoU signing took place today at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
According to a press statement, the partnership aligns with the objectives of the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC), reinforcing efforts to achieve decarbonisation, economic growth, and energy security in Asia.
Sarawak Energy was represented by group chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, while JBIC was represented by managing executive officer and Global head of the Infrastructure and Environment Finance Group, Sekine Hiroki.

In conjunction with the event, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah, on behalf of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, also attended the launch of the Malaysia Pavilion at the World Expo, officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah.
The theme of the World Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai was ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’. The Malaysia Pavilion emerged as a popular pavilion, attracting visitors from around the world.
Sarawak Week, scheduled for August, was also showcased at the pavilion. The Sarawak Week highlights the State’s unique identity through cultural performances and pocket talks on trade, investment, tourism, agriculture, oil and gas, renewable energy, and talent development. – DayakDaily
