MIRI, Nov 1: The Sarawak government, through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), has allocated RM900,000 in funds for the construction of a multi-faith space building at Miri Hospital.

The two-storey building’s construction is scheduled to commence in March 2024 and will be carried out in two phases.

Miri mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang, who is also Pujut assemblyman, presented the cheque for the fund allocation during a simple ceremony at Miri Hospital.

The first phase of construction is estimated to cost about RM2 million and will take approximately one year to complete.

This phase will include a main prayer hall for all religions, a waiting area, a children’s play area, and a counseling room.

The second phase will involve the creation of a therapeutic garden. The project was initiated after tenacious efforts by the Miri Hospital Visitors Board (MHVB), which had been lobbying for it since 2016.

Also present at the ceremony were Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong, MHVB chairman Cr Karambir Singh, the board’s treasurer Iqbal Abdollah, and the project’s consultant. — DayakDaily
