Sarawak Governor surprises locals with casual visit to popular mee jawa coffeeshop in Miri

MIRI, March 9: His Excellency Tun Pehin Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, made an unexpected visit to a renowned local eatery on Jalan Marina, leaving residents in awe and excitement on Saturday morning.

Known for its delicious mee jawa, the eatery became the centre of attention as the governor interacted with patrons in a casual setting, showcasing his down-to-earth demeanor and commitment to community engagement.

The spontaneous visit left a lasting impression on those present, who appreciated the opportunity to interact with their governor outside of official events.


Accompanied by Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Miri Deputy Mayor Cr Arriffin Mohamad, the governor and his wife arrived promptly at 8.30am, wasting no time in indulging in the local delicacies on offer.

With a discerning palate, His Excellency carefully selected items that showcased the region’s culinary traditions, including traditional Malay sweets Dodol and Pulut Sambal.

Over the course of nearly two hours, the couple enjoyed Mee Jawa and engaged in conversations with patrons, highlighting their commitment to connecting with the community on a personal level.

Tun Pehin Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tunku Jaafar, a former Dewan Negara president, assumed the role of the 8th Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sarawak on Jan 26, this year, succeeding the late Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, who held the post for three terms since March 1, 2014. — DayakDaily
