KUCHING, Nov 20: The Sarawak government will continue developing routes and other infrastructure projects for the local community following the completed Julau road alignment of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway project that connects Bintangor and Julau up to Sibu.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg thanked the federal government for completing the project despite a delay following a change of government and alterations relating to the project.

“The state government will also play its role to build roads in Julau, including Pakan and Meluan, where the new road will be built to connect directly to Betong.

“The Pan Borneo Highway road will also be connected to the coastal highway, which is currently being implemented by the Sarawak government.

“We can open up more areas and develop the economy which will increase the income of the local community,” he said when launching the Work Package Contract 07 (Julau Section) road alignment under Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway Project with Senior Minister of Works Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof in Julau today.

Abang Johari, who is Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman-cum-Satok incumbent, further said that the Pan Borneo Highway project will be completed according to schedule.

“The Pan Borneo Highway would make travel more comfortable and efficient for road users with the four lanes and road interchanges.

“For Julau in particular, it is an area of pepper and oil palm production. It also has attractive places in terms of tourism. So the completed road will further open up the economic sector in the area in the future,” he said. — DayakDaily
