KUCHING, May 31: Sarawak Energy’s retail and operations arm, Syarikat SESCO Berhad will not be charging the 6 per cent Goods and Service Tax (GST) for electricity consumed from June 1 onwards.
According to a press release, this follows the recent announcement that Malaysia’s GST will be reduced to zero per cent from the current 6 per cent starting June.
“Sarawak Energy is working on the back-end billing system to prorate the consumption over the transition period.
“For electricity consumption in the month of May, 6 per cent GST is still chargeable and the amount payable is reflected in the tax invoice (bill),” Sarawak Energy said.
