KUCHING, March 11: Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy) has reiterated its commitment to achieving full electrification across the State, ensuring reliable electricity access for all communities as part of its broader social responsibility efforts.
Speaking at the ‘Majlis Berbuka Puasa bersama Sarawak Energy’ (iftar gathering with Sarawak Energy), its Group chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Sharbini Suhaili emphasised that the company’s vision of universal electrification is not merely a technical goal but also a social imperative.
“As the primary electricity provider for Sarawak, we remain fully committed to achieving full electrification across the State to ensure every community has access to reliable energy,” he said.
He added that such milestones are only possible through the support and trust of the people of Sarawak.
Held tonight at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), the event was attended by over 500 stakeholders—including community leaders, and representatives from local mosques, suraus, and charitable homes—and showcased Sarawak Energy’s commitment to fostering unity and sharing blessings during the holy month.
Contributions were extended to several community-based organisations, reflecting the company’s continued commitment to social investment.
“I want to emphasise that Sarawak Energy will continue such initiatives in line with our social investment pillars — supporting communities throughout Sarawak, particularly those near our project areas, in areas such as education and youth development, environmental stewardship, cultural and heritage preservation, as well as community development and entrepreneurship,” said Sharbini.
In alignment with its social investment focus, Sarawak Energy continues to support education and youth development through its Sarawak Energy Scholarship Programme, which provides financial assistance to Sarawakian youth pursuing higher education.
Each year, around 150 students in Sarawak receive support through the programme, with priority given to financially disadvantaged students from communities located near Sarawak Energy’s project areas.
“We also implement student sponsorship programmes to support secondary school students by providing consistent educational assistance to schools across Sarawak under our corporate social responsibility (CSR) outreach, helping to create a more conducive learning environment for students.
“This will further encourage economic and developmental growth in our beloved state.
“We hope that these ongoing efforts will bring a positive impact to those in need, especially orphans and senior citizens,” said the Sarawak Energy Group CEO.
With Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaching, Sharbini assured the public that Sarawak Energy is strengthening its operational readiness to maintain a reliable electricity supply.
“Our teams are working diligently with contractors to ensure efficient operations and swift restoration of power in case of disruptions,” he added.
The public is encouraged to report outages or suspicious activities near electrical infrastructure through the company’s customer service channels, including the ‘SEB Cares’ mobile app and ‘Carina Sarawak Energy’ Facebook page. — DayakDaily
