Sarawak Covid-19 cases drops to 261 in total, Kuching records 106 cases

KUCHING, July 21: The overall Covid-19 caseload in Sarawak has dropped to 261 from yesterday’s (July 20) 351 cases while Kuching remains the district with the highest numbers with 106 new cases today.

According to reports by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), this is the eighth consecutive day that Kuching remains the district with the highest number of daily toll since July 14.


The number of cases registered in Kuching were 137 (July 14); 137 (July 15); 238 (July 16); 194 (July 17); 130 (July 18); 193 (July 18) and 170 (July 20).

Today, districts that recorded zero Covid-19 cases were Subis, Asajaya, Tebedu, Limbang, Telang Usan, Simunjan, Dalat, Kabong, Kanowit, Lubok Antu, Betong, Selangau, Matu, Marudi, Julau, Pusa, Sebauh, Tanjung Manis and Daro.

Other than Kuching, districts that saw double-digit case numbers included Meradong (33), Saratok (30), Serian (17), Sibu (15), Lundu (14) and Sri Aman (14).

The remaining 14 districts with new infections today were Miri (4), Bau (4), Bintulu (3), Mukah (3), Beluru (3), Bukit Mabong (3), Kapit (2), Pakan (2), Sarikei (2), Song (2), Samarahan (1), Belaga (1), Lawas (1) and Tatau (1).

With that, SDMC said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak as of today stands at 72,213.

“Out of the 261 patients today, 115 were detected following close contact screenings where six of them were symptomatic.

“Another 71 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where nine showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“There were 30 cases that were of symptomatic screenings from health facilities, 43 cases were from other screenings in health facilities, and two Import-B cases who came from Sabah and Johor,” it said in the statement on Covid-19 update today.

One new fatality was reported today, involving a 58-year-old man from Serian who suffered from high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease, thus raising the Covid-19 death toll to 450.

Meanwhile, 436 patients were discharged from hospitals across Sarawak, so there remain 4,210 active cases in isolation or treatment.

On Covid-19 zones, Sarawak now has 19 red, three orange, 1 yellow and four green zones. Tanjung Manis, Limbang, Lawas and Daro are the only safe zones as of today. — DayakDaily
