29 workers of transportation company test positive for Covid-19, sparks new Jalan Demak Laut Cluster

KUCHING, July 21: Twenty-nine workers of a transportation company at Demak Laut Industrial Estate here have tested positive for Covid-19, giving rise to the Jalan Demak Laut Cluster.

According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, a total of 186 people linked to the cluster have been swabbed, with 29 testing positive while the rest have tested negative.


The Jalan Demak Laut Cluster is one of three new Covid-19 clusters identified today.

The others are the Sungai Sebatu Cluster and Balai Ringin Melayu Cluster.

The Balai Ringin Melayu Cluster so far has seen 48 residents from Kg Balai Ringin Melayu in Serian testing positive for Covid-19.

A total of 112 villagers have been swabbed with 48 testing positive and the remaining 64 testing negative.

SDMC said Covid-19 patients from the Jalan Demak Laut and Balai Ringin Melayu clusters have been admitted to health facilities in Kuching and Serian for treatment.

On the other hand, the Jalan Kuala Tatau Cluster has ended.

With this, there are now 93 active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak out of which six clusters reported 74 new cases today. — DayakDaily
