KUCHING, Sept 15: Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi have been invited to attend the 2026 National-level Malaysia Day Celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) tomorrow.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the invitation was presented during a courtesy call by the National-level Malaysia Day Celebration Main Committee at the Astana Negeri Sarawak today.
The delegation was jointly led by Communications Minister Dato Seri Fahmi Fadzil and Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Fahmi said Wan Junaidi and Fauziah were expected to arrive at the BCCK at about 8.15pm, with the celebration scheduled to end at around 10.30pm.
“Alhamdulillah, the courtesy call went very well. Abdul Karim and I presented the invitation letter to His Excellency for the Malaysia Day Celebration to be held at BCCK tomorrow, Sept 16,” he told reporters after the meeting.
He said preparations for the national-level celebration were progressing smoothly, including the publication of a special book by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) for Wan Junaidi.
Several programmes have also been lined up in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration. These include a programme organised by the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), a thanksgiving ceremony at Masjid Jamek and a historical exhibition jointly organised by Ukas, Information Department of Malaysia (JaPEN) and the National Archives of Malaysia.
The exhibition will feature accounts from police and military veterans, who will share their experiences and recollections of the struggles to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty.
Also present were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Ukas) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Sarawak Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, Ukas Director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan and JaPEN Sarawak Director Sabri Said. — DayakDaily
