KUCHING, April 27: The federal government has formed a dedicated team to look at the design and cost of the construction of Sarawak Cancer Centre, says Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof.
He revealed that in a recent meeting attended by Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the federal government has agreed to the Sarawak government’s offer to provide a loan for the project.
“The federal government has more or less agreed, and now we have formed a dedicated team to look at the project design, cost and so on before we conduct the reimbursement later.
“There is no other State government that dares to provide loans to the federal government. Sarawak is the only exception,” he said during an Aidilfitri gathering organised by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok Branch held at Dewan Haji Kamarudin, Kampung Segedup today.
Fadillah, who is also Federal Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation and Petra Jaya MP, further said such a model of contra loan as initiated by the Sarawak government would be adopted for other developments, including dilapidated clinics and schools.
On March 30, Anwar, during a function in Kota Samarahan, said he has agreed to a new method to address the long overdue proposed Sarawak Cancer Centre project.
“If Sarawak can initially fund the project a bit, the federal government can cover the rest later,” he said. — DayakDaily
