KUCHING, April 27: Sarawak has been proposed to impose a minimum deposit of RM2 million or purchase of property not less than RM1.5 million as a requirement for businessmen and investors to migrate to the State, says Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof.

He said many of his business friends have expressed their intentions to migrate to Sarawak following the potential of business prospects in the State.

“Therefore, I wish to suggest to the Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) that since we are going to have our own bank later, those people who wish to migrate to Sarawak should be imposed a minimum deposit of RM2 million into our bank or buy property of not less than RM1.5 million here.

“At least this proposed move can generate more income for our State in exchange for those people getting permanent resident (PR) status in Sarawak,” he said during an Aidilfitri gathering organised by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok Branch at Dewan Haji Kamarudin, Kampung Segedup, today.

Fadillah, who is also Federal Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation and Petra Jaya MP, further cited the federal government’s policy on Malaysia Permanent Residence Permit, where one of the conditions is that the applicants must come out with some sort of investment to Malaysia.

“The money will then be put into a fixed deposit and so on. That will increase our State’s fund and we will definitely have good quality people coming in and help develop the State,” he added.

At the same time, Fadillah also officiated Kampung Segedup Library, located near Dewan Haji Kamarudin.
