Sarawak, Brunei strengthen bilateral ties with focus on economic, investment cooperation

KUCHING, June 30: Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam are stepping up efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new opportunities for economic and investment collaboration.

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, this followed a courtesy visit by Brunei Darussalam’s Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato Seri Setia Erywan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Yusof, to Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment (MINTRED), Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, at Wisma Sumber Alam here today.

The visit aimed to enhance diplomatic ties and discuss potential areas for strategic cooperation between both governments, particularly in inclusive and sustainable regional economic development.

Also present were Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development permanent secretary Datu Abdullah Julaihi; MINTRED permanent secretary Dzulkornain Masron; and Sarawak Land and Survey Department director Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood.

Erywan was accompanied by Brunei’s Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pengiran Datin Paduka Shazainah Pengiran Dato Paduka Shariffudin, senior officials Syamin Nabilah Daud and Dayangku Nor Zaidah Pengiran Shahminan, as well as Brunei’s Consul General in Sarawak, Sheikh Abdul Mahdani Datuk Paduka Sheikh Abdul Gani.

Erywan had arrived in Kuching on Sunday night (June 29), where he was welcomed at the Kuching International Airport by Abdul Mahdani.

The visit reaffirmed the continued commitment of both Sarawak and Brunei to deepening regional diplomacy and pursuing strategic partnerships for mutual growth. — DayakDaily
