Sarawak and Singapore discuss matters of mutual interest, cooperation on renewable energy, green economy

KUCHING, April 27: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg called on Minister of Manpower and Second Minister of Trade and Industry Singapore Tan See Leng today and discussed matters of mutual interest, including collaboration on renewable energy as well as the green and hydrogen economy.

According to a media statement, the leaders of both countries held a 45-minute meeting before Abang Johari flew back to Sarawak after an overnight working visit to the Island Republic.

The Premier flew into Singapore yesterday (April 26) afternoon to deliver a keynote address as a guest speaker at the S. Rajaratnam Endowment Dialogue 2022 (SRED 2022) upon the invitation of Temasek Foundation, the organiser.


Joining the Premier during the meeting were the Minister of Utilities and Telecomunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Economic Planning Unit (EPU) director Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel and Sarawak Energy Bhd chief executive officer (CEO) Datu Sharbini Suhaili.

Last night, the Premier in his address at the SRED 2022 touched on current world and regional trade issues and the various new initiatives of the Sarawak government.

Under his leadership as head of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, Abang Johari highlighted that bold initiatives were introduced to transform Sarawak’s economy that include the digital economy, hydrogen economy, green economy, the alternative funding through the Development Bank of Sarawak (DBOS), the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) programme to modernise public transport, the Sarawak Science Centre and technology-driven commercial agriculture to turn Sarawak into a net exporter of food products.

Prior to the meeting, Abang Johari also received an interview with the Straits Times where he was asked various questions ranging from Sarawak political climate to the intricacies of Malaysian politics, economic development in Sarawak, Sarawak autonomy and rights based on the Malaysian Constitution and Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). — DayakDaily
