BINTULU, Feb 19: In a concerted effort to strengthen emergency medical response at Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP), discussions were held today on the establishment of an Emergency Medical Facility (EMF).
According to a media release today, the proposed facility aims to complement existing emergency services by providing dedicated on-site medical support and round-the-clock ambulance services for the industrial workforce.
The initiative, led by OCI TerraSus and facilitated by the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda), was discussed at a meeting chaired by Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment Datuk Malcom Mussen Lamoh at Samalaju Resort Hotel.
The session brought together key stakeholders and senior industrial management to explore the facility’s role in enhancing worker safety.
Perkhidmatan Antarabangsa SOS Sdn Bhd (PKA.SOS), in collaboration with International SOS, presented the proposal, leveraging its expertise in industrial health and emergency services.
Recoda emphasised that the EMF is designed to improve workplace safety by deploying a dedicated medical team to handle emergencies, provide urgent pre-hospital care, and stabilise critical injuries and illnesses.
Given SIP’s location—approximately 60 kilometres northeast of Bintulu—the facility will include a fully equipped ambulance service to ensure the rapid transfer of critical cases to Bintulu Hospital for advanced treatment.
“This service is vital in bridging the geographical gap and ensuring seamless medical support for the SIP community. Establishing the EMF will be a crucial addition to SIP, enhancing its appeal to potential investors by strengthening safety infrastructure in this heavy industrial hub,” the statement read.
SIP, an 8,000-hectare industrial hub, currently hosts 14 investors across key sectors, including aluminium, ferroalloys, polysilicon, and industrial gas production. It plays a pivotal role in driving Sarawak’s industrial growth, supported by robust infrastructure such as Samalaju Port, a water treatment plant, a fire department, and Samalaju Resort.
As the meeting facilitator, Recoda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance workplace safety and well-being. It also reiterated its dedication to fostering a business-friendly environment to drive sustainable growth within the region. — DayakDaily
