SIBU, April 25: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president, Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum will not make himself the default party candidate for Julau in the 15th General Election.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the party’s 5th Triennial Delegates Conference dinner here last night, he said if his party or Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) want him to contest the seat, he still would have to determine whether he is the right candidate to win back the seat which he once held.

“I can’t say I will contest but if the party and GPS feel that I can contest, I will assess whether I am suitable to contest or not,” he said.

He however sensed that the party and GPS might nominate him if he is a winnable candidate.

He added that as there is no telling when the election will be called, anything can happen as far as the party’s choice of candidate is concerned

Touching on PRS’ Supreme Council posts for the new term, he said they had reached a consensus that there would be no contest for these posts.

“In PRS, we have matured to share our thinking and have succeeded in achieving a consensus in which we all agreed that all positions from president to other posts in the Supreme Council will not be contested but we are filling these positions,” he added.

Separately, he said he had urged members to go to every division after this TDC so as to increase the value of the party.

“I want them to help me make PRS a party that people are happy to be associated with and realise it to be people-centric. From now on we are going to start moving around to all our divisions and see that each division has a place in our organisation,” he said. — DayakDaily
