PADAWAN, March 4: Kampung Annah Rais received a grant of RM6.5 million for infrastructural upgrades from the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) yesterday. (March 3)

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) news report, some of the infrastructures that are set for upgrades are football fields, public parking lots within the village, public facilities, a cultural and arts centre, and riverbank mitigation.

This statement was shared by the Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak Datuk, Dr Jerip Susil, during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Biannah Cup and Araf Cup Football Competition yesterday.

To him, these facilities hold significance as they are poised to elevate the status of Kampung Annah Rais as a prominent tourist destination in Sarawak, concurrently bringing advantages to the neighbouring residents.

The existing football field where the competition was held is set to be replaced with the construction of an Arts Cultural Centre specially crafted to showcase the rich arts and culture of the Bidayuh community, specifically highlighting the Biannah heritage.

Dr Jerip emphasised that the cultural centre will also contribute to the promotion of Bidayuh community handicrafts, fostering economic growth among the local population.

Other notable attendees include the Padawan Subdistrict Office Administrative Officer Paul Mathieus Akin, Puncak Borneo MP Peter Apit, Kuching District Bidayuh Ambassador Raymond Jihap, Padawan Municipal Councillor Felik Ngui, and Annah Rais Kampung Youth Leader, Rais Walter. — DayakDaily
