Sarawak gov’t approves RM20 mln to upgrade Kampung Sapit road

PADAWAN, June 27: The Sarawak government has allocated RM20 million to kick-start the upgrading of Jalan Kampung Sapit, a key infrastructure project aimed at transforming the development landscape of the area.

Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Road), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, said the upgraded road will serve as a major catalyst for Kampung Sapit’s growth by improving connectivity, stimulating rural tourism, and creating wider economic opportunities for local residents.

“The project, implemented under the Greater Kuching Coordinating Agency (GKCDA), is expected to significantly reshape the socio-economic outlook of the surrounding communities,” he said as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news.

He highlighted this when officiating the Merun Kasah Biya 2026 event at the Kampung Biya Sapit community hall today.

On additional development initiatives, the Mambong assemblyman said the government has also approved RM200,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to upgrade the village’s gravity-fed water supply system.

He further announced RM300,000 in funding for the upgrading of the Kampung Sapit multipurpose hall to provide more comfortable and conducive facilities for the local community.

Also present were Assistant Administrative Officer of the Padawan Sub-District Office Paul Mathieus Akin, Kuching Bidayuh Pemanca Raymond Jihap, Bidayuh Penghulu of the Annah Biya area Dorong Kabut, local community leaders (KMKK) of the Padawan Sub-District, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) members, and representatives of the Biya Kuching Association (PEBIYA). — DayakDaily
