KUCHING, Nov 1: Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin is confident that all three incumbent assemblymen in his parliamentary constituency will be retained to defend their respective seats in the coming Sarawak election.

The three incumbents are Datuk Dr Jerip Susil (Mambong), Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn (Tarat), and Datuk Miro Simuh (Serembu).

Willie said the incumbents had worked hard over the past five years to develop their respective constituencies and had brought numerous development projects to their areas.

“I am hopeful that all three incumbents will be retained to defend their respective seats, and I will go all out to help. We are prepared.

“While I welcome healthy competition and the opposition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has done a lot for the people, and the people can see for themselves,” he told reporters today at a driving licence presentation ceremony for Puncak Borneo residents, officiated by Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Roads) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil at Kasah Event Centre in Kampung Tabuan Rabak.

Willie also described his working relationship with the three incumbents as positive.

Meanwhile, Dr Jerip declined to comment on whether he would be retained as the GPS candidate for Mambong in the coming election.

“Wait, wait. The Election Commission (EC) has yet to hold its meeting. Only after that will the Premier announce the candidates,” he said.

It is understood that the EC is scheduled to convene a meeting on Nov 6.

On a separate matter, Dr Jerip said the contractor undertaking the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project had been instructed to implement all necessary safety measures and repair uneven road surfaces.

Asked whether the government would compensate motorists for vehicle damage caused by the ongoing ART construction works, he said there was currently no such arrangement.

“However, our commitment is to continuously remind contractors to take all necessary precautions,” he stressed. — DayakDaily
