KUCHING, Oct 20: Sarawak is investing RM3 million to equip the Rampangi Permanent Food Production Park (TKPM) here with smarter farming technology, including real-time monitoring, automated fertigation, and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled analytics, to improve farm management and maximise crop yields.
Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the upgrade, funded under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13), is targeted for completion in the third quarter of 2027.
“Meanwhile, the Rampangi Precision Farming Park in Kuching, covering approximately 1.7 hectares, has achieved 68 per cent physical progress and is expected to be completed next month, with planting activities scheduled to commence in December this year,” he said when delivering his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
Rundi said the ministry was also developing two other precision farming parks in Sarawak, Sungai Sebiew in Bintulu and Kabuloh in Miri, to promote modern farming technologies and increase food production.
“As of September 2026, the Sungai Sebiew Precision Farming Park in Bintulu and the Kabuloh Precision Farming Park in Miri had achieved physical progress of 47 per cent and 62 per cent, respectively. Both projects are scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027,” he said.
Developed in line with the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030, the three parks will feature greenhouses, internal access roads, fertigation systems, and Internet of Things (IoT) technology to support more efficient farming practices. — DayakDaily
