RM16 mln approved for building of replica of legendary Iban warrior Rentap’s fortress in Bukit Sadok

SPAOH, Sept 30: A replica of Rentap Fortress, which was once manned by the legendary Iban warrior it is named after will be constructed at its original site at Bukit Sadok with an allocation of RM16 million.

The allocation has already been approved by the Sarawak government for the project in hopes that it will enhance tourism in Betong.

According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas expressed confidence that the Rentap Fortress replica will become the latest attraction in Betong.

“Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved RM16 million for the project with supporting facilities at Bukit Sadok,” he said after chairing a meeting on the proposed Rentap’s Fortress Replica project held at Spaoh Sub-District Office here today.

Betong District Council secretary Charlie Keling also gave a briefing about the project which is currently still in the design stage.

The project will also involve the construction of a visitor centre, carpark, the Rentap Fortress Replica building itself as well as upgrading works on roads and trekking trails.

Earlier on, Uggah, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development, visited and inspected several project sites.

Among the projects include the proposed Jalan Penom/Ulu Bayor/Danau, Betong, new Spaoh market, Spaoh waterfront and controlled irrigation scheme project in Tanjung Sebekut.

“The visit is to inspect and see the physical progress of the constructions as well as to learn if there are any issues to come up with solutions,” he added.

Political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Dr Richard Rapu, Public Works Department (JKR) Betong Division engineer Oliver Ngabong Jimmy and Spaoh Sub-District administrative officer Lister Clement Guwie were present. — DayakDaily
