KUCHING, April 1: The RM11 billion fund from the GPS-led Sarawak government is for the infrastructure in the State and will benefit the generations to come.
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing said the roads and bridges under this allocation, once completed, would be appreciated by the people.
“The RM11 billion infrastructure development on roads and bridges by GPS government is for our future generation.
“In 30 years’ time, our people, while driving down on these roads and bridges will say, ‘Thank God our leaders had vision to build the correct infrastructures’,” he said in a statement today.
The RM11 billion State funds were granted by Sarawak government to the Public Works Department (JKR) in 2019 for the upgrade of existing 896km of coastal road, building of nine major bridges and the construction of 232km Second Trunk Road.
Masing, who is also Infrastructure Development and Transportation Minister, when announcing this grant said the nine bridges under the coastal road network are Batang Rajang, Batang Saribas, Batang Paloh, Muara Lassa, Jepak in Bintulu, Batang Rambungan, Sg Krian, Batang Igan and the Batang Lupar Bridge project where the groundbreaking ceremony was just held on Feb 18.
The coastal road network and second trunk road are set to provide access to Sarawak coastal areas by offering seamless connectivity between towns like Kota Samarahan, Sadong Jaya, Sebuyau, Kabong, Tanjung Manis, Daro, Matu, Balingian and Bintulu with the Pan Borneo Highway. — DayakDaily
