SIBU, April 9: A saleswoman was left poorer by RM41,870 after she fell victim to an online job scam.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the woman in her 20s was attracted to an online part-time work offer on Facebook account in April 2.

The job promised good commission for each task completed.

“As she was interested, the victim contacted the number advertised in the job offer. She was then told by the suspect to log into a website to register her name,” he said.

After completing the first task, she was paid a RM100 commission which was banked into her account.

“Subsequently she was given more tasks to do. However she was told to make room reservations with 10 different hotels first before the tasks were given to her,” said Zulkipli.

The woman then performed 12 money transfers to five different bank accounts totalling RM41,870.

“After that when she asked the suspect about the promised commission, the suspect gave her many excuses,” Zulkipli said.

Realising that she had been conned, the woman lodged a police report on April 8. — DayakDaily
