KUCHING, June 20: The Sarawak United Association of Private Chinese Secondary School Management Board (Sha Dong Zong) received a grant worth RM10 million from the Sarawak government today, as part of the State’s annual funding support for 14 Chinese independent secondary schools across Sarawak.
According to TVS, the association’s chairman, Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau Lee Ming, said the grant—first introduced in 2009—initially amounted to RM3 million and was gradually increased over the years, reaching RM10 million in 2019.
The grant was presented during a courtesy call to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here.
“We are grateful to the Premier for his consistent support as it helps the schools to cover its annual operating costs,” he said.
He added that Chinese independent secondary schools don’t receive funds from the Ministry of Education and depend on public contributions; therefore, the assistance of the Sarawak government is vital.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak government also allocated RM7 million for the relocation, expansion, and construction of eight Chinese independent secondary schools Statewide. — DayakDaily
