Bukit Aman Special Branch director Mohd Khalid Ismail appointed new IGP

KUCHING, June 20: Bukit Aman Special Branch director Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has been appointed inspector general of police (IGP), effective this coming Monday (June 23).

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said Khalid, who will serve on a two-year contract, will replace Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who will retire when his term ends on Sunday (June 22).

The handover-of-duties ceremony took place at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre, witnessed by Saifuddin and attended by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, along with senior police officers, according to Bernama.

Saifuddin said Mohd Khalid is well-positioned to lead the police force and strengthen its role in safeguarding national security and maintaining public trust.

The minister also expressed his appreciation to Razarudin for his service, acknowledging his contributions to the police force and the nation.

Mohd Khalid, 60, hails from Manong, Perak. He holds a master’s degree in Comparative Laws from the International Islamic University Malaysia and has nearly forty years of experience in policing and national security.

He joined the police force on April 5, 1987, and began his career with the Special Branch at Bukit Aman after completing general police training. Over the years, he has served in various roles at Bukit Aman, in state contingents and overseas, including as a security liaison officer (SLO) in London. — DayakDaily
