RM1 mln in contraband cigarettes seized by 12th Batallion

LIMBANG, Jan 4: General Operations Force (GOF) 12th Batallion seized smuggled cigarettes worth about RM1 million during a raid on an unnumbered house in Limbang.

Sarawak GOF commander SAC Datuk Khaw Kok Chin in a press statement today said the raid was conducted by a joint operation force from GOF Miri and GOF Limbang at an unnumbered house at 3 ½ mile, Jalan Kubung here yesterday.

“After waiting for about two hours, no party had come forward to claim the ownership of the contraband inside the house.

“Upon further inspection, we found a total of 4,280 carton of white and also kretek cigarettes worth RM1,045,000 believed to be without tax,” he revealed in the statement.

He added all the items were confiscated under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, and will be handed over to Limbang district police station for further action.

No arrest was made during the raid which was conducted by a team of police from the 12th Battalion of GOF Miri Intelligence Branch, Company C from GOF Limbang, and led by Inspector Rizuan Makladin, together with six other intelligence officers. —DayakDaily.

Boxes of kretek cigarettes including from other brands was also seized in the raid.
