MIRI, August 24: Ten cows donated by Member of Parliament for Sibuti, Lukanisman Awang Sauni and Bekenu assemblywoman, Rosey Yunus were slaughtered in the compound of Masjid Al-Mutaqim, Bekenu, on Thursday (Aug 23) morning in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha.

The mosque’s chairman, Dato Usup Sani Wahap also donated a cow for the event which kicked off around 8am.

Locals flocked to Masjid Al-Mutaqim to witness the sacrificial slaughter in conjunction with the Hari Raya Korban celebration. Among those present was Lukanisman.

The meat was later distributed to nearby villages under the Sibuti constituency namely Kampung Dagang and Kampung Kelapa, the mosque’s committee members, Camp Sri Miri and Miri prison.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Plantation Berhad (SPB) also donated eight cows to surau and mosques in the Sibuti constituency.

“We laud the efforts made by SPB for their contribution as it is engaging with and strengthening relationships with the local communities,” said Lukanisman in a statement via WhatApp.

He added, the ‘Korban’ ritual is one of the ‘Fardu Kifayah’ (communal obligation) in Islam, and the event is a noble act that would be greatly felt and appreciated by the less fortunate members of the community.

“It also teaches and prepares us to be willing to make sacrifices,” he said. — DayakDaily
