Relief as 77-year-old woman missing for three days found safe

BETONG, Nov 13: A 77-year-old woman who was missing in the Kampung Penurin forest area since Nov 10 was found safe this morning.

Betong fire chief who is also the commander for the Search and Rescue (SAR) operations PPgB Vincent Yabi said the victim, Andun Jabu was found by villagers some 2 km away from her own longhouse at 11.04 am.

“One of the villagers was driving on his truck along KM 2.5 in Terenteng when he stumbled upon Andun on the roadside. He immediately drove her back to her house at Rh Sibat, Kampung Penurin.

“The victim is reportedly safe and in a conscious state. She was handed over to the police while waiting for medical officers to conduct a health check,” Vincent said.

The SAR operation which was jointly carried out by Betong firefighters, civil defense, police and villagers ended at 11.40am.

Earlier this morning, SAR team scoured around 300 meters radius of the peat swamp area, located some 1km away from the victim’s longhouse.

On Nov 11, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) launched the SAR operation after Andun’s children lodged a police report on her disappearance.

Andun left her longhouse on her own to their family farm located some 500 meters away in the Batu Api area.
