Facelift for three courtrooms to serve as Sarawak Native Courts

KUCHING, Nov 13: Three courtrooms in Kanowit, Saratok and Telang Usan are being renovated and upgraded to become Sarawak Native Courts (MBS).

Chief Deputy Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the renovation works are expected to be complete by 2020.


“Three courtrooms namely at Kapit District Office, Saratok District Office and Telang Usan District Office are undergoing renovation and upgrading, and are expected to be completed by end of this year with a total cost of RM369,395,” he said.

Uggah who is also Minister of Agriculture Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development pointed out a comprehensive study on the transformation of the Native Courts in Sarawak is underway.

He added the final study report will be ready by end of 2020.

Meanwhile, he noted 25 seminars and workshops involving 1,917 participants and six outreached programmes that have been conducted under the Majlis Adat Istiadat Sarawak (Mais).

“Mais has also published 24 books on various topics on Adat, traditional knowledge, cultural expressions and folklore,” said Uggah when presenting his winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex today.-DayakDaily
