KUCHING, March 13: Sarawak Energy will be organising the annual Junior Badminton Championship on a bigger scale this year and registration is open now.
A press release today revealed that the tournaments will be held in three locations — Kuching, Sibu and Miri — and offer attractive prizes, with a grand finale for the winners from the three location to compete for the championship trophy.
This year’s tournament will kick off in Miri from March 29 to 31 at Tung Sports Badminton Hall at Jalan Padang Kerbau.
The Sibu event will be held from Aug 16 to 18 while Kuching will host the final leg from Nov 22 to 24.The grand finale will be held in Kuching from Dec 13 to 15.
Apart from the championship trophy, the winners will also receive medals and cash prizes.
The tournament is divided into categories of Boy’s Singles, Girl’s Singles, Boys’ Doubles and Girls’ Doubles. The Boy’s Singles and the Girl’s Singles are for Under 10, Under 12, Under 15 and Under 19. The Boys’ Doubles and the Girls’ Doubles are for Under 12, Under 15 and Under 19.
Now open for registration, the tournament is open to all Sarawakians, permanent residents and those with work and study permits, between the ages of 19 and below.
The competition aims at nurturing interest and develop potential young talent in badminton.
It is also to provide an avenue to groom young shuttlers to compete at local, regional and international level.
Prizes worth more than RM8,000 are up for grabs, an increase of more than RM2,000 from last year.
The tournament will be played on single knock-out and a 21-point 3-game system.
The registration forms are available at http://se2019.eventrunner.com.my and interested participants are to submit their forms online together with their registration fees.
The registration fee is RM10 per player for the Singles categories and RM15 for the Doubles categories. Fees are non-refundable.
