KUCHING, Oct 17: The Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) is planning to turn a planned flyover in Bukit Mas, Limbang, into a tourist destination.

In a news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Recoda chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Ismawi Ismuni mentioned that the flyover could serve as an iconic spot for tourists to take a break and capture photos at designated areas on the structure.

“They can stop and take pictures, as they will be able to see Brunei across the way.

“You can imagine in the future, as a tourist in this area, how much you would enjoy the breathtaking view,” he said during his solo session titled ‘Sustainable Development Through Green Infrastructure’ on the second day of the 7th International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

Additionally, the construction of this iconic flyover is expected to benefit the local community by creating opportunities for them to generate additional income and improve the socio-economic conditions of the people in the area.

Regarding the design of the flyover, Ismawi emphasised that the main consideration is ensuring the use of local resources, particularly materials sourced locally.

“We’re talking about durability and longevity. Ensuring it lasts a long time. The design is also friendly in terms of maintenance and operation,” he noted.

According to him, they have 48 months left to complete the project, after which it will be handed over to the Public Works Department (JKR), the asset owner of the flyover.

This handover, he explained, will allow JKR to manage it more efficiently, making highway maintenance and management easier in the future. — DayakDaily
