Read @ Unimas Programme launched

KOTA SAMARAHAN, July 2: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) today launched the Read @ Unimas Programme by its Board of Directors chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie.

The ceremony was held at DETAR Putra, Unimas, and it was attended by all Unimas residents, who also celebrated the university’s ‘Ngabang Raya’ programme.

The Read @ Unimas programme is in line with the aspirations of the Ministry of Education in promoting the National Reading Campaign from 2018 until 2020 as intended by Minister of Education Dr Mazlee Malik, in conjunction with the Reading a Decade Ahead 2030 programme.

The Read @ Unimas programme is also among the Read Programme @ Uni which also sees participation by all Institutions of higher learning in Malaysia that began on Nov 29 last year.

Read @ Unimas Undergraduate Programme Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, with the slogan ‘Enhance Your Knowledge’, is a programme that involves all Unimas residents as well as local communities, especially primary and secondary schools nearby. Unimas also involves special education students.

The programme is also filled with a variety of casual and scientific activities to promote the involvement of all citizens. More than 21 programmes have been rolled out and will be implemented throughout the remainder of this year, involving all faculty and responsibilities centres.

The highlight of the Read @ Unimas Programme is the prize presentation of the ‘Sapa Champion Juh Nulis Esei 2019’, which was held from March 12 until June 15. This competition is one of the initiatives to encourage reading and writing among Unimas citizens and to share their lifestyle through reading.

The eventual winner was Fallisca Evon Berek (Faculty of Language and Communication), while second place went to Muhammad Syazani Suhaimi (Faculty of Language and Communication). The third place winner was Valentino Abu Bakar (Centre for Academic Information Services).

Unimas pledged to continue to support and intensify efforts towards further promoting the interest and culture of reading and writing amongst its students. — DayakDaily
