KUCHING, May 20: Storytelling is more than just another form of entertainment—it opens a world of imagination and learning for children, says Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

He said this during a storytelling session organised by the Kuching Love Book Association, which was held at the Malaysia-China Friendship Park in Jalan Song here on Sunday (May 18), as stated in a press release.

In his address, he commended the Kuching Love Book Association for its continued efforts in nurturing a reading culture.

He emphasised that reading plays a crucial role in shaping the minds of young learners, enhancing their creativity, language skills, and knowledge.

“I am pleased to see such initiatives that promote reading in a fun and engaging way,” he said.

He further expressed hope that more storytelling sessions and reading-related activities will be organised in the future to reach even more children and families across the city.

During the programme, four schoolteachers took to the stage to share engaging and imaginative stories with the young audience.

The event not only brought fun and excitement but also aimed to spark a love for reading and books among children.

Meanwhile, MBKS said that it continues to support programmes that encourage holistic development among children and strengthen community bonds through education and culture. — DayakDaily
