KUCHING, Aug 22: Ragad Foundation, the brainchild of Sarawak Governor’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib, aims to set up more mini libraries and Internet cafes in rural areas.

According to its chief of programme and campaign, Lila Ruzaini Hussain, the foundation, in collaboration with strategic partners and government agencies under the ‘Let’s Read Campaign’, has managed to collect more than 4,000 books to set up mini libraries in rural areas.

“So far, we have set up two mini libraries in Ulu Baram and one mini Internet cafe at Long Beladin.

“More libraries and Internet cafes will be set up soon in rural areas,” she said during the ‘Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib’s Hi-Tea with the Media’ event held at a local hotel here today.

She also mentioned that under the ‘Kamek Prihatin’ campaign, Ragad Foundation has organised a few programmes and activities such as a vaccination programme for youth aged 18 and below, distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) to the urban poor and most affected communities in Sarawak and few states in Malaysia, handing over of food baskets to more than 2,000 recipients, distribution of basic needs to flood victims, organising an online forum on ‘How To Manage Online Sexual Crime’, and so on.

Moving forward, she noted that the foundation has recently launched several programmes and ongoing projects such as the ‘Education Programme’, ‘Water For All’, ‘The Penan Product Programme’, and ‘Career Opportunity Programme’. — DayakDaily
