KUCHING, Nov 1: Political pundit Dato Peter Minos has called on Sarawakians to be cautious of Peninsular Malaysia-based political parties that he claimed are seeking to gain control of the State through local political representatives, especially with the Sarawak election looming over the horizon.
In a statement issued on Saturday (Oct 31), he said that it would be difficult to trust that outsiders could understand what Sarawakians need or know how to govern the State.
“Our Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) said it, and he said it straight— only Sarawakians can safeguard our future. This is a very clear and valid point.
“It is not that we are always wary of outsiders, but our experiences have taught us to remain vigilant and exercise caution. One example is the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). Years have passed, yet our rights and entitlements under MA63 have still not been fully realised. That alone speaks volumes,” he said.
He further claimed that Peninsular-based political parties are seeking to gain control of Sarawak through their political platforms and fellow Sarawakians, adding that leaders from Peninsular Malaysia are guiding and controlling these Sarawakian politicians.
“If they win, effectively, Peninsular Malaysia wins. Just look at how some of these Sarawakian politicians behave. They speak and act like their political masters in Peninsular Malaysia, often in ways that are rough and insensitive to Sarawak’s circumstances and sentiments.
“What would happen if these Peninsular-based political parties won and took over the Sarawak government? It would be a difficult situation for us. We could face the same political turmoil and social problems that are so evident in Peninsular Malaysia. One problem could follow another. I would not want to live in that kind of Sarawak,” he said.
Looking ahead to the coming State election, Minos urged Sarawakians to place their trust in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), saying the State’s political future should remain in the hands of its own people. — DayakDaily
