KUCHING, April 23: The subject of a merger between the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) is “mere sensational reports—no more and no less”, says PRS Youth chief, Datuk Snowdan Lawan.
In a press statement issued today, he said that at this time, no discussions are being held about a merger between the two parties.
“Since it is not a substantive report, we shall leave it as a mere report then,” he said.
He added that Sarawak’s political situation is more conducive now with the four component parties in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition, which consists of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersaru (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), PRS, and PDP.
“As for (the) PDP-PSB (merger), the scenario was different since PSB was in the opposition and outside of GPS.
“In other words, let this environment remain status quo for the sake of stability,” he said.
Snowdan said this in response to a news report that PDP president Dato Sri Tiong King Sing is open to a merger with PRS after Julau MP Larry Sng suggested it.
This followed the dissolution of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), which saw its members accepted en bloc into PDP. — DayakDaily
