PRS pol sec: Say goodbye to Sarawak’s autonomy if Sarawak PKR succeeds

Charles Chad Nissom

KUCHING, Aug 5: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) political secretary to the Chief Minister Charles Nissom has labelled Sarawak PKR Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin an active promoter of Malayan parties which have been trying to dominate Sarawak.

Charles said Willie, who accused the Sarawak government of power abuse after announcing an allowance of RM300 per month for each councillors, made an ignorant statement but at the same time, seemed to turn a blind eye on his own political masters who gave much bigger allowances to their councillors in Penang and Selangor.

“In what way is it an abuse of power when the state government gives an allowance of RM300 per month to the Sarawak councillors as a token and recognition of their contributions for the implementation and supervision of the rural development efforts?

“Does Willie think that it is also an abuse of power by Penang and Selangor which give much bigger allowance to their councillors?

“Or is he afraid to point that out to Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, and instead turn to the councillors of Sarawak?” Charles questioned in a statement today.

He was responding to Willie’s statement made on Aug 3 accusing the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) led Sarawak government of practicing ‘abuse of power’ by giving RM300 monthly allowance to each of the state’s councillors.

Charles said if Willie and his colleagues in Sarawak should ever succeed, Sarawak would have to say goodbye to its autonomy which was in compliance with the Malaysia Agreement (MA63) and the struggle for fairer revenue sharing.— DayakDaily
