“Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has also informed the Singaporean Prime Minister (Lee Hsien Loong) that the Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has raised the matter, and Anwar agrees with the idea of opening the Singaporean consulate general office in Kuching.

“Therefore, we are submitting a request and waiting for a response from the Federal Government. Upon approval, we will commence work to establish the consulate in Kuching,” Vanu told reporters after paying a courtesy call to Abang Johari in Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Vanu also said that a Singaporean general consulate office will be established in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Also present during the courtesy call were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
