MIRI, March 20: A proposal to build the first Velosolutions Pump Track in the State was submitted in 2021 and is awaiting approval.

According to Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I Datuk Sebastian Ting, the pump track could be the first of its kind in the State.

He said that the project would be slotted under the rural transformation programme (RTP), and Taman Bulatan has been identified to build the track, which has an estimated cost of RM600,000.

“Once approved, we expect construction to commence in July this year with a six-month construction period,” Ting said when met today after the flagging-off ceremony of the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Piasau branch’s inaugural off-road mountain trail biking (MBT) event held at Marina Park.

Ting, who is also Piasau assemblyman, said that he hopes to encourage more people in Miri to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle and provide a venue for cycling enthusiasts to gather.

On today’s event, 90 participants took part in four categories — Junior, Open, Veteran and Novice.

The youngest participant was 16 years old, while the oldest was 62 years old. — DayakDaily
