KUCHING, March 20: Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen has been elected as the new head of Democratic Action Party (DAP) Socialist Youth (DAPSY) during DAP’s 17th National Congress today at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam.

After receiving 232 votes, the Bandar Kuching MP outpaced his two contenders, Bandar Utama assemblywoman Jamaliah Jamaluddin and DAPSY national secretary Eric Teh Hoong Keat.

Dr Yii replaced Howard Lee, who is now running for a position on the central executive committee at today’s main party congress meeting.

In a Facebook post by Dr Yii, he thanked his peers and supporters for entrusting him with the position.

“With this trust and responsibility given to me, I will carry out (my duties) wholeheartedly with my team, especially to unite and consolidate DAPSY nationwide,” he said.

Dr Yii also expressed gratitude to Jamaliah and Teh, stating they share the same ideologies in wanting DAPSY to be stronger.

“I am confident in the potential and ability of young people to forge a better future, and I believe DAPSY will continue to be a catalyst and thinker that will bring creative and innovative solutions to the issues faced by young people and all Malaysians,” he added.

Meanwhile, DAPSY Kuching chief Michael Kong Feng Nian, who was present at the National Congress with other DAPSY members, congratulated Dr Yii on being elected DAPSY national chief in a Facebook post. — DayakDaily
