KUCHING, Oct 16: Prominent businessman Tan Sri Ting Pek Khiing has passed away this afternoon at the age of 79.
He was pronounced dead at his residence in Jalan Song at 3.30pm.
The famous property developer left behind his wife Puan Seri Dato Wong Sui Chuo, four children and 13 grandchildren.
Born in Bintangor, Ting started as a fruit seller with his father.
Their small business eventually grew into a huge success, then he ventured into the construction industry.
Among his major projects in Sarawak were the construction of the RM15 billion Bakun Dam in 1994.
He also constructed the new Bintulu Airport in 2002 and upgraded Kuching International Airport (KIA) in 2003.
Over in Peninsular Malaysia, Ting’s company successfully completed the Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort within 100 days.
Two years ago, he announced that he is taking on a RM30 billion development project in Langkawi, by constructing about 30,000 high end condominiums and commercial centres. — DayakDaily
